Thanksgiving Weekend Shop SALE

I've been a Black Friday shopper as long as I can remember.
When I was a little girl my mom and I would sit down Thanksgiving afternoon-after all the food was put away and the dishes were done-with the department store sale ads spread from one side of the living room to the other. We plotted our course, make our lists, and went to bed early.
Each department store had a different gimmick to get you in the door. Usually, the first (x) number of shoppers at in each store got an ornament, cracker jack box, or other trinket with a secret percentage code discount or instant shopping spree inside.
It was thrilling.
We woke up around 4:30am, dressed in our puffy paint Christmas sweatshirts, donned our Santa hats, jeans, and tennis shoes and off we went to the join our fellow happy 'Day After Thanksgiving' shoppers (long before the term Black Friday was coined). Most people were kind, saved places in line for one another. Laughed and giggled excitedly about the mystery sales of the day. Some years my mom and I were home with our treasures before my brothers and dad were even awake!
Naturally, when I became a mom I wanted to carry on the tradition of insane early morning after Thanksgiving deals with my girls. Big Sister was a 3 month old nursing 'shopper' her first Black Friday. She slept thru the early morning adventure. Two years later, Big Sister stayed home in bed with Breadwinner as a 3 month old Little Sister and I went out for bargains. Little Sister didn't want to miss a thing! She was Mommy's wide eyed helper happily tagging along in her sling all morning.
This year- much like last year- they will stay snug as bugs in bed as Mommy ventures out. What can I say? I'm a sucker for deals.

What I Wore: Queen Bee Weekend

Last weekend the whole family loaded into the excursion and drove 3 and a half hours south to The Queen Bee Market.
Look for a recap post after Thanksgiving.
In the meantime, after the quickest set up on record, and an awesome first day at the market, I got to see Mindy Gledhill in a perfect evening ending concert.
She performed in front of the cutest backdrop created by Amorology.
When the concert was over Lindsey helped me snap a few photos in front of the bow ties.
Yes, I jumped up on stage.
No, the lighting was not ideal.
Yes, that is THE Mindy Gledhill.
If you don't have her new Christmas album yet zip on over to i-tunes or Mindy's site and snag it!

Saturday, the back drop was still sitting in the lobby when we left for breakfast so we took advantage of the cuteness in the day time.
The bows kept falling off (with the help of little hands, I'm sure) but isn't it fabulous?!

Digging Deep

T minus 2 days of prep remaining for the mother of all Southern California handmade markets- the Holiday Queen Bee Market.
I know, I'm still in shock they accepted me again.
It's been a zoo around our house
There is an 8ft by 4ft booth living in my craft room...aka the Surprise Room- another story for another day. The living room is covered in wreaths, felt, Christmas ornaments and yarn.
Oh, and did I mention over the weekend Little Sister came down with a horrible case of croup? Yep, finally took her to the doctor today because I couldn't bear the terrible cough, horse voice, and grabbing at her throat every time I even mentioned breathing. She's on the upswing for sure- and now Big Sister is showing symptoms.
And then there is the other news-I'm still trying to figure out how to post about it. No- we are not pregnant- don't go getting all crazy on me.
In the midst of all the chaos I did manage to get up and dressed every day this week- including the weekend. I EVEN did my hair a few days and actually put on some make up.
Walking on the wild side.
I even ventured into the depths of the back of my closet-that makes my closet sound humongous. It's fabulous, but things don't really get lost in there...I don't think. Hmmm- that sounds like another post, too. So- now 3 teaser posts in- let's get back on task. I broke out my dusty old jean jacket last week and a pair of hippie bootcut cords I forgot about (thank you, ShopGal!). It wasn't the most creative outfit, but it did the trick.
Um, and yes- my blog my headless photos. Wasn't such a fan of the no make up face
Black ruffled front henley- Old Navy, denim jacket-NY&Co, khaki cords-American Eagle via ShopGal (years ago), green wedges-Athens, GA boutique
Want a little sneak peek of some special holiday items coming with me to Queen Bee?
I thought you might.
Better get there early. These bits of sparkly fabulousness will go quick!
If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you already caught a glimpse of a few of my other new products.
Here are a few more reasons to stop by Friday night.
The argyle yarn wreaths are available in 8", 12" and limited quantities of the fabulous 18" size!
As always, I'll have a few of my trademark hoot friends in several sizes, too.
Can't wait for Queen Bee this weekend? Don't live in Southern California?
Raising Oranges is giving away a 12" version of this Black Tie Christmas Wreath.
Stop by and leave a comment to enter!
The beautiful 18" version pictured here is coming with me to Queen Bee.
Want to call dibs?
Happy Wednesday!
As always, linking up with Lindsey and Nina.

You may remember my friend, Alyson hosts a Random Acts of *Holiday* Kindness link up party every Monday on her blog. This week I was the recipient of some pretty amazing kindness!
A couple months ago my friend, Katie- you know, the one who gave away that super cute owl clutch last week- send me a photo of a new product for my opinion. It was a new tote bag.
I instantly fell in love and told her it might not make it to the shop because I might buy it on the spot! Then the practical side of me kicked in- 'Meagan, you have so many bags. Do you really need another one?'
I wanted it. I NEEDED it. But I was good and said no.
Then the fall Sew Funky Market came along and Katie was directly across from me
With, yep- the bag staring me in the face. Taunting me...'You know you want to take me home. You know I'm so stinking cute you can't stand it'.
and if THAT wasn't bad enough, she brought the matching zippered pouch! Photobucket
It took all my will power to be good- be practical, and leave the bags there.
Katie had other plans.
She knew all along how much I loved that tote and wanted it to come home to me.
So she packaged it up with a pretty little note and sent it my way. Photobucket
When I checked the mail this morning I almost cried!
I just love this girl!!
You should love her, too.
She found her old recipe blog she thought she lost, re-named it and is blogging again!
Go check her out at Raising Oranges and give her another virtual hug for me.
Thank you, Katie!!!

Time to be Thankful and a Recipe

November is here.
A month to be thankful.
Or at least remember our blessings.
The weather is cool, fall is officially here, there are fires in our fireplace
I'm thankful.
Thankful my girls have a loving, caring, Christ centered school where they can learn and grow into incredible little people.
Thankful for food on our table each meal of the day and for full bellies as we lay in warm beds each night.
Today, I'm thankful to be sharing about a program that is helping schools to grow, and sharing a recipe that helps fill our tummies!
This fall, Smart & Final is teaming up with the California Milk Advisory Board helping Southern California elementary classrooms, schools and students with their "Help Our Teachers, Help Our Kids" promotion. Schools collect Real California Milk seals from milk and dairy products to earn cash and scholastic books!
From October 12, 2011 thru December 27, 2011, Students & families collect Real California milk seals from select First Street products-everything from milk to cottage cheese, sour cream to ice cream-then turn them into your teachers to submit. Each seal counts as one sweepstakes entry. Teachers who submit 100 seals get 25 Scholastic books or $25 school supply gift card. Each teacher entrant gets one Scholastic book!
The California Milk Advisory Board is going to announce winners in February, BUT Smart & Final is so awesome that they're doing a separate sweepstakes!  #SmartFinalSupportsSoCalSchools
Entrants who go to and tell why their Southern Californa school should win will be entered to win $500, $300 or $200 to be donate to the school of their choice EVERY MONTH! That's right, there will be a total of NINE winners, 3 per month, from those that enter at the site!
Thanksgiving is coming. What will you make with your First Street Real California milk products?
I'm one of those crazy people who doesn't care for mashed potatoes.
I know, I know- a Thanksgiving staple.
One of my favorite alternatives is a dish my mom called Company Potatoes
You will need:
1 bag frozen hash browns
1 medium onion (or half a large onion)
2 cans Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 stick First Street unsalted butter
2 cups First Street Cheddar Cheese (I prefer to grate my own)
8 oz First Street Sour Cream
Photobucket First, chop your onion.
Melt your stick of butter in a large saute pan. Photobucket
Add the onions and saute until translucent.Photobucket
Next, add both cans of cream of mushroom soup.Photobucket
Then your sour cream and cheese and mix thoroughly. Photobucket
Open your hashbrowns and add them to your favorite baking dish Photobucket
Pour your yummy cheese sauce over the top and combine well. Photobucket
Pop your potatoes in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Photobucket
Then enjoy!

What I Wore: An Outfit Bust

Do you ever look through your closet and piece together an outfit in your mind?
An outfit that is so cute and so original in your mind you can't wait to put it on?
One so incredibly perfect, it meshes color blocking, repurposing pieces in creative ways, pulling oldies but goodies out of the back of the closet?
I had that outfit.
It was all put together in my head.
I woke up last Wednesday, washed, dried AND curled my hair before we left for the preschool
*note: morning are rough at my house. I NEVER wash, dry, AND curl my hair on a school day- this was a big deal*
I donned my fabulous frocks, fluffed my hot rolled locks, and loaded up for a busy day helping with picture day at the Preschool.
Seriously cute.
No one said a word all day.
Not even a snide comment graced the lips of the women who usually have at least something to say about my good, bad, or otherwise outfits.
THAT should have been the first clue.
Nope. I felt too fabulous to see the signs.
So, I loaded up the girls, came home, did...who knows what, and prepared dinner for Breadwinner.
He came home...and said nothing.
Nothing positive. Nothing negative.
When I asked him to take some photos of me, he grabbed the camera and followed me to the backyard, happily snapping away as I attempted to pose.
The next day, I looked over the photos.
The outfit was terrible. My hair was terrible.
Outfit Bust.
I wasn't going to share with you. I was going to delete the photos and forget it never happened.
Then I remembered....I might not be alone.
There could be other brave women who dig through their closets in search of a re-style and come up with a bust.
They could be in my boat-finger on the delete button.
Feeling alone and ridiculous.
Well, for those women- who were brave enough to try and ya go.
A bust. A major.outfit.bust.
I'm proud. I'm learning. This one, not so great, but the next will be fabulous.

Better luck next week!

Kindness and a Winner

Kindness is contagious.
Isn't it?
Paying it forward. Doing something unexpected.
It's nice to bring a little joy to someone's day.
What better time than during the holidays.
My friend, Alyson is hosting a Random Acts of Holiday Kindness link up every Monday during this holiday season. She's encouraging everyone to spread holiday cheer!
Jeannett and Julie are hosting The Happy Day Project this week, too!
So many reasons to share a little 'Happy'!
A few weeks ago I offered to take engagement photos for a friend.
Did you know I did portraiture years ago?
She's getting married in just a few weeks in a very small and intimate ceremony. Their budget is pretty small so they can use all the help they can get!
To sweeten the deal, I made a little something extra for the happy couple to use during the shoot.
Michelle and Eric are such a sweet couple.
This is the second marriage for both of them. With 4 kids between them, they don't get much time alone.
Our little shoot was so much fun!
The perfect little time together before they begin their new life as a blended family.
Seeing Michelle's excitement about her photos and little bunting made it all worth it!
While we are spreading kindness....the winner of the Paper from Heaven owl clutch is:

Thank you to all who entered.
