What I Wore: An Outfit Bust

Do you ever look through your closet and piece together an outfit in your mind?
An outfit that is so cute and so original in your mind you can't wait to put it on?
One so incredibly perfect, it meshes color blocking, repurposing pieces in creative ways, pulling oldies but goodies out of the back of the closet?
I had that outfit.
It was all put together in my head.
I woke up last Wednesday, washed, dried AND curled my hair before we left for the preschool
*note: morning are rough at my house. I NEVER wash, dry, AND curl my hair on a school day- this was a big deal*
I donned my fabulous frocks, fluffed my hot rolled locks, and loaded up for a busy day helping with picture day at the Preschool.
I.felt.fabulous.
Adorable.
Seriously cute.
No one said a word all day.
Not even a snide comment graced the lips of the women who usually have at least something to say about my good, bad, or otherwise outfits.
THAT should have been the first clue.
Nope. I felt too fabulous to see the signs.
So, I loaded up the girls, came home, did...who knows what, and prepared dinner for Breadwinner.
He came home...and said nothing.
Nothing positive. Nothing negative.
Nothing.
When I asked him to take some photos of me, he grabbed the camera and followed me to the backyard, happily snapping away as I attempted to pose.
The next day, I looked over the photos.
My.heart.sank.
The outfit was terrible. My hair was terrible.
It.was.terrible.
Outfit Bust.
I wasn't going to share with you. I was going to delete the photos and forget it never happened.
Then I remembered....I might not be alone.
There could be other brave women who dig through their closets in search of a re-style and come up with a bust.
They could be in my boat-finger on the delete button.
Feeling alone and ridiculous.
Well, for those women- who were brave enough to try and fail....here ya go.
A bust. A major.outfit.bust.
I'm proud. I'm learning. This one, not so great, but the next attempt...it will be fabulous.

I loved this post. I have been there. Felt totally cute, imagining something else...then I see a picture.

I love chunky sweaters with turtle necks just like that one and the hubby is always telling me not to wear them. :/ I'm liking that belt :)

WHAT?! I think you look fabulous! And I'm not just saying that to make you feel better. I like it a lot.

I think it's cute! But I know what you mean about how wonderful an outfit can look in your head but once you put it on, it doesn't quite work out.

I always take my pictures before I leave the house so I will really see any possible flaws when I can still change my outfit. Sometimes, that has led to my changing my entire outfit!

I followed you here from WIWW.

Well, I'm not seeing the bust! I think this is totally adorable. If I had seen you, I would have made a point to say, "LOVE THIS!" :)

But yes, I think we all do have those outfits that work better in our minds than on our actual selves. I have posted a few of those, too.

But I still think you look super cute.

YES. We have all been there. My problem is I usually dream up these adorable outfits between snooze alarms, during half-dreams. One time I convinced myself that I had a cute navy dress to wear, because I'd dreamed about it. Sigh.

Thank you for sharing!

We all have those days, and what's more amazing than just an outfit, is that you were brave enough to push your boundaries and try something new! Glad you posted this. You may not love this outfit, but you confidence is shining through :)

I thought you were going to say that you had left a roller in the back of your hair! haha...

it really isn't as bad as you make it out to be. long skirts are coming back in but thanks for keeping it real. ♥

Aw, you still look happy! :) And if you felt great in it, it's not a total bust. ;)

Stopping in from WIWW!

I think it looks great. The good thing about closet experiments is you can start over the next day.

I do that too. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Unlike you though, I delete and forget but I think I'll be brave and post the next time I have a bust.

But I do love the sweater and the dress and the boots, so individually they really are some great pieces.

I am glad you wrote this, I think we have all been there!
It's amazing how something seems to look cute, then when I see the photo- I don't like it as well. Everyone should photograph their outfits- works better than a full length mirror! LOL!

I think your chunky cable knit sweater would look adorable with black skinny jeans and flats.

I had the SAME experience this week too! Check my post http://objectofmayaffection.blogspot.com. I LOVE the boots!

I think you look adorable! I never would have thought to put the pink belt with the teal skirt -- I think it definitely works. However, I have absolutely had the experience of thinking I look ONE way and then seeing, via photos, that I look entirely different. Good for you for bravely posting pics in spite of not wanting to!

hahaha I have to start with that because I have totally done this! I get suspicious when hubs doesn't say anything...

I've been trying the 'winterized' maxi dress and it's a lot harder than it should be! We're bound to get it sooner or later :) Thanks for opening up and sharing your 'bust', it's inspirational!
